The Youth International Leadership Institute (YIL-Network) is honored to announce a groundbreaking partnership with Mikrogen Genetic Diagnosis Center, a globally respected biotechnology institution based in Türkiye. This strategic collaboration aims to advance shared priorities in genetic screening, youth empowerment, and public health innovation across Africa and beyond. This partnership is anchored in two flagship initiatives — the CarrierCheck Project and the GEN-YOUTH Exchange Erasmus+ Program — each designed to enhance biomedical innovation, knowledge transfer, and capacity building for healthier and more resilient communities.
The CarrierCheck Project, supported by the European Union’s Eureka Network and TÜBİTAK TEYDEB, represents a major scientific achievement valued at €2.3 million in inherited disease screening. The project has developed a comprehensive 146-gene panel used for accurate detection of carriers of monogenic diseases such as:
Designed for use during premarital or preconception stages, CarrierCheck provides a powerful tool for reducing the burden of hereditary diseases through early detection and informed health decisions. With more than 27 years of operational excellence and 600,000+ genetic tests conducted, Mikrogen has built a world-class genetic data infrastructure across Europe and the Middle East. Through this partnership, YIL-Network will help contextualize and integrate the CarrierCheck model within Liberia and other African countries, adapting it to population-specific genetic profiles and aligning it with national health systems and preventive care policies.Using AI-assisted bioinformatics, next-generation sequencing (NGS), and rigorous clinical validation, CarrierCheck stands as a cost-effective and highly reliable solution for improving reproductive health outcomes and advancing genetic literacy across Africa.
The GEN-YOUTH Exchange Erasmus+ Project is a transformative global learning initiative that will empower the next generation of biomedical innovators and public health leaders.Hosted at the state-of-the-art Mikrogen Laboratory in Ankara and coordinated by IPPADA (International Project Preparation and Development Association), with partners across the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa, the program will:
Beyond laboratory learning, GEN-YOUTH integrates cultural immersion experiences — including intercultural dialogue sessions, cultural exchange nights, and heritage visits across Türkiye — helping to build unity, respect, and shared purpose among participants from diverse backgrounds.
Together, YIL-Network and Mikrogen are nurturing a new generation of genetic science ambassadors committed to advancing global health equity. This partnership stands at the intersection of science, technology, and youth leadership — driving forward a vision where:
Science for Humanity. Health for All. Leadership for the Future.
